MONOMIALS

I have been working with a high school student recently.
The topics of Monomials and POLYNOMIALS are at a website that I have built.
www.math.knepfle.com
Feel free to checkout the website and I hope it can be of some help to you also!

a MONOMIAL is ...
an expression that is:
- a NUMBER
- a VARIABLE
- a VARIABLE to a POWER (EXPONENT)
... NO NEGATIVE POWERS
- or the PRODUCT OF some of the above

..THUS, a Monomial has only a SINGLE (ONE) TERM
When the MONOMIAL is only a NUMBER,
it is called a CONSTANT.

when the MONOMIAL has a variable,
the number factor is called the COEFFICIENT.

The DEGREE of the Monomial is A CHARACTERISTIC
that measures how many variables are
factors in the Monomial.

The Degree of CONSTANT is ZERO - 0.
When variables are found in the monomail,
the Degree of the Monomial is the
SUM of the POWERS.
(Note: X by itself has a POWER of ONE)
